I choose joy. When you hear you have a chronic, lifelong disease, your first thought is not “Yay! Good for me! I’m so lucky!” It takes awhile for it to sink in that you have an illness that will be with you every minute of every day for the rest of your life. And, life is what you make of it. I’m going to live my best life the best way I can. So, I choose to live my life with joy.

Almost 27 years ago, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. I was very sick for several years – in and out of the hospital, eventually having surgery to remove my colon. After two years symptom free, IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) reared its ugly head, once again. I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease.

After many years of only a few people knowing about my secret life, I have decided to share my journey, hoping to help others who battle Inflammatory Bowel Disease and their family and friends.
